1. 2025 Summer Medicine and Culture Program 

Dive into the intersection of medicine and culture with this immersive program. Participants will explore diverse healthcare practices, engage with international peers, and gain insights into the Chinese medical system.

2. 2025 Summer Clinical Program

This clinical program offers hands-on experience in a dynamic healthcare setting. Participants will collaborate with experts, work on real-world cases, and develop practical skills to excel in optometric practice.

Both summer programs provide:

ASCO Eye Opener Sessions

Match and meet with a practicing optometrist near you, either virtually or in-office shadowing. All students have to do is answer a few questions about goals and hobbies and the program will match ODs with like-minded students. To learn more about the program, visit the EOS website

UC Berkeley ViSUR

Vision Science Undergraduate Research (ViSUR) Program is an intensive 8-week summer program, for undergraduate students interested in vision research. Participants will hone their capacity to discover, innovate, and collaborate by immersing themselves in some of the exciting research currently happening at the Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry & Vision Science.

Undergraduate students will have the opportunity to work in a lab with a faculty advisor on a research project. In addition to working on a project, the students will attend regular seminars with other summer undergrad students across campus and with their T35 students.

UC Berkeley Friday Visits

UC Berkeley’s Friday Visits give prospective students an opportunity to meet with an Admissions staff member, a short tour of our facilities, and the opportunity to shadow a Pre-Clinic course.

This is a great opportunity to have first hand experience in exploring the program and get advice from some student ambassadors and Admissions directors.

ASCO Eye Opener Sessions

Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) Eye Opener Sessions is a program designed to match prospective optometry students with local Optometrists for shadowing opportunities

Students can opt for virtual or in-person 30 or 60 minute sessions

Matches determined by location, shared interests and goals

UC Berkeley Opto Camp

OptoCamp is a free, 1-week virtual summer camp where students can learn more about the profession, connect with Berkeley staff, faculty and students all while engaging in projects together around the field of Optometry.

OptoCamp will run from Monday, June 9 – Friday, June 13, 2025.

Applications open on February 3 and close on March 28th.

 
STL Mission Trip

STL, a non-profit organization that provides vision screenings to the public, is hosting a mission trip in Oakland, CA on October 12, 2024. 

 

STL is looking for volunteers to assist the doctors. Deadline to submit is September 8th.

Want to jump into the optometry field and work in a tight knit team of optometric assistants, opticians, and doctors? Dr. Keith Chow and his team at Branham Family Eye Care would be more than happy to welcome all pre-optometric students or any students interested in Health at SJSU to take their first steps with us. Dr. Keith Chow has had a history of supporting our club and taking many of our members, including President Michelle Cristi (2019), President Richard Bui (2020), Secretary Kim Khanh Bui (2021), Vice President David Jian (2022), President Laura Nguyen (2023), Treasurer Cristen Jaro (2023) and more under his wing.

The best part is that there is no prior experience required! Students will be trained in a variety of skills in pre-testing, optician and technician work, front-desk reception, and more.

Full time or part time. Preferred availability for mornings and flexible schedule.
